Kaylene Wakeman

Kaylene Wakeman is the Administrative Coordinator for CESaME and the STAR program. Kaylene is a 2001 graduate of Cal Poly with a degree in Biological Sciences, and a minor in Psychology. Upon graduation, she spent four years working for UCLA in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Thoracic Imaging Research Group. She has been with CESaME since 2005 and has served as Project Manager for the STEMLITES project from 2006-2007, and the STAR Program Coordinator since 2007.

Mendy Dearborn

Mendy Dearborn is the MSTI (Math and Science Teacher Initiative) Coordinator at CESaME. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 2007 and then a Single-Subject Teaching Credential in 2008. Mendy has helped coordinate programs that are affiliated with CESaME including the Central Coast Science Project and the Teacher Apprentice Program. When asked “How does CESaME benefit education as a whole?” she answered: “CESaME helps college students think beyond their major and consider, if not completely sign on to, impacting the next generation through teaching science, math and engineering.”

Sarah Heilbrunn

Sarah is a 5th year Microbiology student graduating in December 2008. She has been working with CESaME as their student assistant since April 2008. Sarah also helps coordinate the STAR program. When asked “How does CESaME benefit education as a whole?” she answered: “CESaME encourages the evolution of education through supporting inquiry-based learning and teaching so that we, as a nation, can stay in pace with the changing times and the challenges we face.”
